Capernaum
Ministry to kids with special needs.
Remember a Bible story where four able-bodied men carry their friend with a disability to see jesus?
This took place in Capernaum (kuh-per-ney-uhm), where Jesus’ visit quickly became the talk of the town. Moved by their bold faith, Jesus restored the man with a disability to wholeness and health. And their lives would never be the same.
We call Young Life’s ministry with adolescents with disabilities “Capernaum” because we don’t think intellectual or developmental limitations should keep anyone from the presence of the One who promises the fullness of life.
In the regions where Young Life MEA serves, kids with disabilities are forgotten by society. They are often locked into their homes, unable to live a full life due to lacking accessibility opportunities, and often being the source of shame for their families.
Young Life Capernaum gives these kids a chance to experience life with all of its adventure, friendship, and the love of Christ.
“My daughter and I learned about Capernaum camp last year. To be honest, I thought that after having us at the meeting once, you’ll forget about us. I’m glad I was wrong. I’m glad my daughter has real friends now. Every time there is a meeting, my daughter becomes happy. Thank you for bringing joy to our children. Thank you for not leaving us and surrounding us with love. Thank you for always taking such good care of my baby and making me feel comfortable about leaving her with you for the entire day. Your program serves not only my Aicholpon but also me.”

Capernaum Ministries
Club
Once a week, kids gather to play games, sing, dance, and hear the message about Jesus. Parents get to stay in a separate space, resting and enjoying each other’s company while also hearing the message!
Camp
Summer camping is something both kids and parents greatly anticipate. For several days, kids swim in the pool (some for the first time in their life), participate in challenges, sing, dance, make friends, and, most importantly, hear about how much they are loved by Jesus.
Advent Calendar
In December, Capernaum kids participate in the Advent Calendar program. It allows them to do a fun craft and learn the Christmas story every day leading to Christmas.
