Ksyusha's Story
I met my friend Ksyusha before I was part of the ministry. Once I joined the team, I was so fired up that I dragged her to every club meeting, youth group, and church service with me. But I didn't realize that I was the only one of us who was excited about it. I was stunned when she finally confessed, "Please stop. You're always inviting me somewhere. Can we stop talking about God and just be friends?"
For three years after that, I was scared to bring up my faith, and it put a wall between us. I had to hide all the amazing things God was doing in my life. Eventually, she sensed this distance and her heart softened. She even started to show curiosity toward Jesus.
Last summer, I faced a choice: an audition in Moscow, my university graduation, or a vacation in Abkhazia. But instead, I chose to serve at a Young Life teen camp. Ksyusha was shocked, but when I told her why I made that decision, her frustration turned to interest, and she decided to join me.
A week before camp, her university admission fell through, wrecking all her plans and really threatening her future. Feeling helpless, she became open to prayer. I prayed aloud for her, and the day before camp, she told me, "I honestly don't get how people don't believe". Out of nowhere, a system glitch got her into the university. It was such a direct answer to our prayer, that she simply couldn't deny it. At camp, she was all in, listening to the speaker and asking questions. On the final night, both she and her younger sister said "Yes" to Jesus.
This was just the beginning: a week later, her mother, who had always thought we were some weird religious organization, asked if she could offer her help. To her, it was a way to experience that same sense of love and care that her daughters did.
Today, Ksyusha's life is moving toward God every day, and her whole family is following it.
