Edgar's Story
Edgar's Story
Edgar is a young man from Armenia who first encountered Young Life in 2015, at just 13 years old. He didn’t even know he was going to camp that summer—he simply tagged along with a few neighborhood kids who invited him at the last minute. What started as an unexpected adventure became a defining chapter in his life.
Growing up, Edgar faced deep challenges at home. His parents’ marriage ended due to his father’s struggle with alcohol, and his early years were filled with conflict and confusion. Though Edgar had heard of God, he often asked, “Why would a loving God give me a father like this?” Still, he kept coming to club meetings until 2020, drawn by the love and joy he saw in others, even if he hadn’t yet experienced it for himself.
In 2020, everything changed. Edgar was drafted into the army—and soon found himself on the frontlines of war. He witnessed unthinkable horrors and lost close friends in combat. His hope began to wither. Then one night, as he lay in a trench, a shell landed directly in front of him. It didn’t explode. He was stunned. In that terrifying moment, something shifted. He realized that God had spared him—that God's love and presence were real, even in the chaos.
When he returned from war, Edgar made a life-changing decision: to follow Jesus with all his heart. He finally knew he was valuable and loved.
Music has always been part of Edgar’s soul. He began vocal classes at age 8 but had to stop due to voice changes during puberty. Years later, in 2023, while helping at a Young Life leadership camp, he was invited to try playing the cajón for club worship. He attended one class—then taught himself. One day, he picked up a guitar and, to his surprise, could play from the start. From there, he began learning informally, discovering an incredible natural talent for rhythm and melody.
Soon after, he began learning drums—an instrument he had always dreamed of playing. As a child, he would pass by the drum room at music school and wonder if that dream would ever come true. Now it is.
Edgar is gifted. He learns fast, plays with passion, and carries a deep desire to serve others through music. He sees his musical ability not just as a talent but as a calling—to glorify God and bring hope to others through worship.
Even at 24, Edgar has a dream: to formally study music and enter the Yerevan State Conservatory. For him, it would be more than an education—it would be a new beginning.
We are looking forward to being in Edgar's life as God continues to grow him and use him in the Kingdom.
